The NewcastleGateshead Art Fair was the largest commercial art fair of its type in the North East - before the last economic recession kicked in. Showcasing the work of around 50 national and international galleries in the iconic Sage Gateshead, the Fair annually attracted up to 9,000 visitors through its doors over a three-day period.
MHW enjoyed working with the organisers for three consecutive years from 2008, developing a strong reputation for the Art Fair within and outside the region working closely with leading London, Scottish and international galleries.
The primary task was two-fold - to help attract and secure exhibitors and sponsors and then to market the event and destination, driving footfall and art collectors to The Sage.
Our integrated communications, developed with event management company Benchmark Communications, featured a wide mix of activity from specialist art magazines to regional press and radio advertising; direct mail and promotions to a heavy emphasis on PR/media relations.A media partnership was established with regional press group, ncjMedia, to ensure promotion across a number of titles and online platforms.
Extensive, positive media coverage was regularly achieved among national specialist arts magazines, along with online and regional media.
For the 2010 Art Fair, we supported online activity and regular e-shots with a simple You Tube video featuring endorsements from exhibitors.
Andy Balman, director of the Art Fair, said: "I have worked with Wayne and the MHW team for more than three years, developing the NewcastleGateshead Art Fair along with the opening of the Balman Gallery. Wayne is great to work with, having the right balance of professional attitude, humour and understanding of client needs."
